Sati Pratha

Origin of the term

ÒThe term is derived from the original name of goddess Sati, also known as Dakshayani, who self immolated because she was unable to bear her father Daksha’s humiliation of her husband Shiva.

Origin of the Practice

ÒAccording to the few reliable records, it started before the time of the Gupta empire, around 300 CE.
ÒEarliest records are found in Madhya Pradesh but the largest collection of cases are from Rajasthan even today.
Indian Law
ÒSati was first banned Bengal Sati Regulation, 1829.
ÒIn 1987, government of Rajasthan enacted the Sati Prevention
Act in 1987.
Thank You!!!!
ÒBachpan bhi dekha nahi,
Bandhan me bandh diya,
Samajh bhi aya nahi,
Kab kanyadan kiya!

Pita se
pyar na mila,
Pati,Pita saman diya,
Kya khwahish karte khusiyo ki?
Sapno ka balidan kiya!

Ye
kaisi pratha purani,
Jo
nari se balidan liya,
Mujhe jalti cheeta pe,
Apno ne hi phek diya!
